If you have a smartphone with a podcast app, you can listen to a podcast easily at home or in your car.
The Best Parenting Podcasts
Whether you need to inject a little humor with funny parenting podcasts or you’re about to pull your hair out and need some positive parenting podcasts, there’s something out there for everyone. The best podcasts are relatable but applicable, so if you’re not sure where to start, then here are a few of the best parenting podcasts out there.
1. Good Inside with Dr. Becky
Dr. Becky is, well, a doctor – so she obviously knows what she’s talking about! A clinical psychologist and mom of three, Dr. Rebecca Kennedy isn’t just some academic who only publishes research on parenting – she lives the experience too. However, one of the best things about this podcast is that it’s based on science, so it provides information you can trust.
Each week Dr. Becky releases a 30-minute episode exploring an aspect of parenting. Episodes provide listeners with actionable advice about parenting and cover a variety of topics, ranging from screen time to tantrums to sibling competition. Well worth a listen for some valuable insight.
2. Raising Good Humans
This podcast is brought to you by another psychologist, this time a developmental one. Dr. Aliza Pressmen spends a little time each week covering topics as varied as divorce with kids to raising children who are not entitled. She even has a whole episode on whining – a real “been there” topic for every parent! Dr. Pressman does many of the shows on her own, but also brings in interesting guests with areas of expertise different to her own, so it’s a well-rounded listen.
3. Dads: The Podcast
You may feel as if a lot of podcasts are geared toward mothers, but there are plenty out there for dads too – if you know where to look. Dads: The Podcast is a production by Rory Scovel, a member of Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco. He brings funny friends on each week to talk about fatherhood – it’s a podcast that will help dads feel a sense of comradery and make them laugh a little in the process.
4. Flusterclux
Are you a parent who struggles with anxiety? Well, this is the podcast for you. Psychotherapist Lynn Lyons, who specializes in the treatment of anxiety, hosts the super-informative Flusterclux. And while there are a few episodes where she goes into children and anxiety (as well as other mental health topics), most are aimed at those who are struggling to parent while addressing their own anxiety issues.
Lyons goes into things like separation anxiety, how laughter can be a great parenting tool, and bad advice that can serve to only make anxiety worse – among many other interesting topics. Even if you’re not suffering from severe anxiety, this podcast is full of guidance and tips that are practical for any parent.
5. Betches Moms
If you want to zone out and just listen to a really funny podcast, Betches is what you’re looking for. Every week the team discusses real parenting problems, but they do it with a heaping dose of comedy. One of the best things about this podcast is that it’s not just focused on children, either. There are several episodes covering topics like accepting your body after having a baby and ensuring your bedroom life stays active and healthy.
6. The Longest Shortest Time
There’s a parenting saying about the days being long but the years short, and this podcast embodies that idea. While it’s no longer releasing new episodes, there is a back catalog of over 200 episodes, so it’s a treasure trove you can happily dive into.
This is a parenting podcast unlike any other because most of the episodes are in a story format, featuring guests who touch on the lessons of each story on a deeper level. Some episodes will supply you with advice while others will just give you a view into the different parenting cultures that exist. It’s very enlightening and definitely worth checking out.
7. Elevating Early Childhood
This is one of the newer pod kids on the block, and it’s a good podcast for teachers, or for parents who are educating their children from home (or simply want to understand new ways they can teach their kids). The host is an early childhood education teacher who provides listeners with real tips that she uses in her own classrooms.
Finding a new podcast to binge is one of the best things about the digital age. Chances are there’s a parenting podcast out there that speaks to you, and that you can use to help you feel more capable as a parent – or simply to have a few laughs while you’re waiting to navigate the power politics of the school pickup lane!
